Map
The Map is the heart of Xopoz. Use it to see your position, follow your team in real time, measure distances, and navigate the world around you.
Three Navigation Modes
The map operates in three distinct modes. You can switch between them using the on-screen controls.
π― Tracking Mode
The map automatically follows a selected team member. The view re-centres each time their position updates. Your chosen zoom level is preserved.
πΉοΈ Free Navigation Mode
You have full manual control β pan and zoom freely without any automatic re-centering. The app still receives live position updates and displays them, but does not move the map. The app switches to this mode automatically whenever you pan or zoom manually.
π Measurement Mode
Tap multiple points on the map to measure the distance between them. Distances are shown in real time in metric units. A grid overlay and precision cross-hair help with accurate placement. Measurements stay on screen until you clear them.
GPS & Position Tracking
Xopoz uses the direct Android GPS system (not Google Play Services), ensuring it works on all devices including custom ROMs.
Smart Battery Management
- Active mode: High-precision GPS + network when you are moving
- Power-save mode: Network-only tracking when you are stationary β saves battery with minimal accuracy loss
- Instant wake-up: GPS activates immediately when the screen turns on, you start moving, or the map is visible
- Gradual sleep: Power-save kicks in after 5 minutes of no movement
Movement Detection
The app detects movement using a 50-metre threshold. When you are moving, your map icon changes from a static circle to a directional arrow showing which way you are heading.
Location History Trails
The map shows a trail (line) of your recent path. You can configure the trail duration from 1 hour up to ~31 days using day and hour sliders. The default is 12 hours. Trails can be hidden or shown without losing the underlying history.
Map Display Features
Custom Map Servers
You are not limited to a single map style. Xopoz lets you configure any raster tile server β including private, enterprise, or offline tile servers.
- Set a server name, URL template, zoom levels and tile format
- Switch between multiple styles on the same server (e.g. satellite, street, terrain)
- Use local or regional servers for better performance or complete offline operation
Visual Reference Tools
- Red cross-hair β marks the exact map centre; used for creating POIs and sharing coordinates
- Grid overlay β assists with distance estimation and navigation precision
- North indicator β always visible at the top centre of the map
Compass & Heading Line
Hold your phone flat in portrait orientation to activate the compass overlay.
- Compass circle β shows your real-time bearing (0β360Β°)
- Green highlight β the compass background turns green when you are aligned within Β±10Β° of North
- Heading line β a full-length red line extends from your position to the screen edge, showing exactly what you are pointing at on the map. Useful for identifying distant landmarks or mountains
- Speed indicator β shown between the compass and the mode label when you are moving, in km/h
Team Members on the Map
Each team member's device appears as a circular icon containing their ticker or emoji. The icon adapts to show their current status:
- White border β device is online and actively sharing
- Red border (semi-transparent) β device is offline or not sharing
- Arrow shape β device is currently moving
- Circle shape β device is stationary
Tap any team member icon to instantly centre the map on their current location.
