Points of Interest

Save, organise, and share important locations. Use private collections for personal use or shared collections to collaborate with your team instantly.

What Is a Point of Interest?

A Point of Interest (POI) is a saved GPS location with a name and optional description. POIs are pinned on the map and can be organised into folders. You can have up to 10,000 POIs (100 folders Γ— 100 POIs each).

Each POI also has a configurable proximity radius (10–500 m, default 100 m) which forms the boundary for GeoFencing alerts.

Creating a POI

POIs are always created at the map centre (the red cross-hair).

  1. Navigate the map so the red cross-hair is over the location you want to save.
  2. Tap the πŸ“Œ Add POI button on the right side of the map.
  3. Choose whether this is a Private or Shared POI.
  4. Select a folder (or create a new one) and enter a name.
  5. Optionally adjust the proximity radius (10–500 m).
  6. Tap Save.
πŸ’‘ Zoom in before adding a POI to place it with greater precision. The cross-hair shows exactly where the POI will be saved.

Private vs Shared POIs

The Points tab has two sections β€” Private and Shared. POIs are never created automatically β€” you must explicitly save each one.

Private POI Shared POI
Visible to Only you (across all your devices) All members of the selected team
Sync Synchronised across all your devices Synchronised across all team members' devices
Collaboration Personal use Any team member can add, edit, or delete
🀝 When you add a shared POI to a team collection, all team members gain access to it instantly β€” no manual sync required.
POI coordinates are not encrypted. Unlike GPS positions, POI coordinates (both private and shared) are stored unencrypted on the server to enable server-side proximity features and search.

Folder Organisation

POIs are grouped into folders for easy organisation. A default Main folder always exists. You can create as many custom folders as you need (up to 100).

Creating a Folder

  1. In the Points tab, tap Create new folder.
  2. Enter a folder name (cannot be empty or named "Main").
  3. Tap OK β€” the new folder appears in the list.

Deleting a Folder

  1. Tap the delete button on the folder header.
  2. Confirm the deletion β€” all POIs inside the folder will also be deleted.

Folders and their contents are sorted alphabetically. The Main folder always appears first.

Moving POIs Between Folders

You can reorganise POIs by dragging them between folders.

  1. Long-press a POI item until a drag shadow appears.
  2. Drag the item over the target folder header β€” it highlights in light blue.
  3. Release to move the POI. A confirmation message appears.

POI Actions

Each POI supports four actions:

Backup & Restore

You can back up all your private POIs to a JSON file and restore them later β€” useful when switching devices or keeping offline copies.

Export (Backup)

  1. In the Points tab, tap Backup Points.
  2. Choose a save location using the file picker.
  3. A timestamped file (xopoz_points_backup_[timestamp].json) is created with your complete folder structure.

Import (Restore)

Import a previously exported JSON file to merge it with your existing POIs. If duplicates exist, the newest version (by timestamp) is kept automatically.

Cross-device sync. Export on one device and import on another to manually synchronise your private POI collection between phones.
